Some language combinations are not readily available in Austria. In these cases we either bring in interpreters from abroad or we use an additional team of interpreters (see relay interpreting).

Interpreting

Oral rendering of spoken texts in a target language.

We offer different types of interpreting to suit your event:

• Simultaneous Interpretating

  In simultaneous interpretation (SI) teams of two interpreters per language work from soundproof booths, rendering a speaker’s message in the target language almost simultaneously. You always need two interpreters per language and booth.

  Technical interpretating equipment, such as interpreters' booths, microphones, headphones, transmitters, consoles and all related sound and audio components, is also required. Conference interpreters are employed at international conferences, congresses, symposia, workshops, meetings, negotiations and occasionally at legal proceedings.

  Simultaneous Interpretating

• Consecutive Interpreting

  In consecutive interpreting (CI), the interpreter speaks after the source-language speaker has finished speaking. The speech is divided into segments, and the interpreter sits or stands beside the source-language speaker, listening and taking notes as the speaker progresses through the message. Whenever the speaker pauses, the interpreter renders that portion of the message in the target language. As consecutive interpreting is very time-consuming, it is only used for small working groups, press conferences or after-dinner speeches.

• Whispered Interpreting (Chuchotage)

  In whispered interpreting (chuchotage in French), the interpreter either sits or stands next to a small target-language audience (no more than 2 - 3 people), whilst whispering a simultaneous interpretation of the matter at hand; this method requires no equipment. Because of the increased noise-level, whispered interpreting can be disturbing, but of great advantage, if only a single person needs interpretation.

• Relay Interpreting

  Relay interpreting is a form of simultaneous interpreting where one team of interpreters interprets a presentation into the official conference language which is then relayed into several additional target languages by the other teams.

• Liaison

  Liaison interpreting involves relaying what is spoken between two or more people. This is a more personal type of consecutive interpreting, in the course of which a relationship develops between the participants. It is very popular for meetings of potential business partners, project meeting, meetings with customers, negotiations, etc. Each question, answer or statement is translated into the target language without delay.

  Please, note that this interpreting technique doubles the time you want to allow for your event.

  An interpreter accompanies you or your delegation on a tour, on a visit, or to a meeting or interview and may also assist you in making appointments or arrange for meetings. Our interpreters provide language assistance with non-business settings, such as shopping, sightseeing, medical appointments, etc.)
